What is Indian Head Massage?
This is a wonderful massage, relaxing, yet also invigorating. Indian Head Massage (known as champi in India) is a massage therapy that focuses on the upper back, shoulders, upper arms, neck, scalp and face- the areas most prone to stress. It dates back 4,000 years and has its origins in the ancient Ayurvedic system of medicine used in India. The person credited with introducing Indian head massage to the UK was Mr Narendra Mehta. He developed head massage into a coherent therapy called Champissage, incorporating an Ayurvedic element with work on the three higher Chakras, so balancing the body’s entire energy system. I was taught Indian head massage by Mr Metha.
What does the treatment involve?
The therapy is performed with the client seated in a chair. It is an enjoyable and effective therapy. I generally perform the treatment without oils unless requested by the client.
